Dietary Factors That Can Improve Heat
An ideal diet to reduce heat should be high in cooling fruits and vegetables. Be very cautious, however, about eating too many cold, raw foods, as they can impair the digestive process and end up causing more heat!
Cool- or cold-natured foods that are also sweet, bitter, or sour will help reduce heat, such as the following:
FRUIT: Cool-natured fruits, such as grapefruit, lemons, kiwis, watermelons, pears, bananas, and any tropical fruits.
VEGETABLES: Cool-natured vegetables, such as asparagus, lettuce, aubergines (eggplants), spinach, cabbage, potatoes, peas, watercress and tomatoes; celery, cucumber and beetroot also encourage urination, which can help reduce heat.
GRAINS: Millet, rice, barley, and wheat.
LEGUMES, SEEDS, AND NUTS: Mung beans.
SEAFOOD: Clams.
DRINKS: Water with lemon juice, pear juice, elderflower tea, chamomile tea, and peppermint tea.
OTHER: Tofu and yogurt.
